Patchouli Mod guide

Patchouli Mod Fabric Guide

Understand the separate Fabric/Quilt route for Patchouli and avoid mixing loader-specific files.

Fabric and Forge are separate installation paths

Patchouli has a separate Fabric/Quilt project while the main project covers Forge and NeoForge. Treat those as different loader families and select the matching file.

Compatibility comes before installation

Patchouli project listings span multiple Minecraft versions and loaders. A reliable workflow is to check the Minecraft version, identify the loader, then choose the file that matches both. Avoid copying a file from another instance unless those details are the same.

Forge / NeoForge route

The main Patchouli project lists Forge and NeoForge builds. Use the file details shown for the target Minecraft branch rather than assuming the newest file fits every installation.

Fabric / Quilt route

Fabric and Quilt are covered by a separate Patchouli project. If your profile uses Fabric, select the Fabric-compatible project and build instead of a Forge or NeoForge file.

Installation checklist

Back up important worlds or pack configuration.
Confirm the exact Minecraft version.
Confirm the mod loader used by the profile.
Download a Patchouli file intended for both.
Place it in the mods folder for that profile.
Launch and verify the setup before making additional changes.

About Patchouli guidebooks

Patchouli itself provides the documentation framework. The actual guidebook, chapters and instructions can come from a mod or modpack that uses Patchouli. This distinction matters when troubleshooting a missing book: the framework may be installed correctly even if the expected content is supplied elsewhere.

Safe update habits

Do not replace working mod files blindly. Keep a backup, change one component at a time, and confirm loader/version compatibility before updating. If the game stops launching after a change, reverting the most recent change is a useful first diagnostic step.
